What our tags mean

  • Arc
= The story arc during which a majority of the side story events take place chronologically
  • Read after Arc
= The story arc which once compeleted the reader will have sufficient context to follow/not be spoiled by the side story. A soft recommendation for when to read a given side story.
  • Lore
= This story contains lore that enriches the main story. These could be prioritized in your read order.
  • Expansion of Events
= This story expands on the events in the main story, providing more details and context.
  • The content based tags like "Lore", "Expansion of Events" and "Slice of Life" are a WIP and have not been applied exhaustively

Note: The search bar for this page can be used to filter content by tags as well, e.g. Try searching for "non-canon" or "lore".

Types of Side Content

  • EX Novels – Side story volumes that have been licensed by YenPress and are available in English. Because these are licensed, fan translations are illegal and will not be linked.
  • Shop Specials – Bundled with Re: Zero volumes at select stores in Japan. Some were collected in Re: BOX (released in 2017), which has no official English release.
  • Gekkan Comic Alive Stories – Bigger than shop specials, published in a magazine. These are usually adapted in EX volumes (which have official English releases) or Tanpenshuu volumes (which do not have an official English translation). Note that there could be differences between the CA version and the EX/Tanpenshuu version of the same story.
  • Bluray (BD) Novels – Bundled with select Bluray volumes. They are limited editions, so they’re very expensive on the used market. There is no official English translation of these volumes.
  • Databooks – Basically what it says on the tin. Books with info about characters, which is not necessarily on the anime.
  • Others – Given out at events (e.g.: Rem and Ram’s birthday events that sometimes happen at Akihabara), or select OVA screenings.

Status of Translations

  • (HQ) – High Quality
  • (LQ) – Low quality – This translation has various major mistakes (hard mistranslations that affect deeper comprehension of the events) when compared to the original Japanese text.
  • (EMTL) – Edited machine translation – This translation has been obtained by using the output of machine translation tools such as DeepL and Google Translator, and editing it to sound natural, with or without the help of the translator’s own understanding of the Japanese and online dictionaries.
  • (TTL) – Translated from another language – This translation has been obtained by translating from a language that is not Japanese; being a second-hand translation means that a lot of the original nuance may be lost between the original Japanese and the final English translation.
